The generic conventions of a music video

Camera: Camera shots usually jump from long shots to close ups to extreme close ups. the close ups are usually on the lead singer and the band, the extreme close ups on the singer lip synching. Crane shots may be used to show running, walking or dancing of the performers.

Lighting: expressive lighting is a key feature in music videos. Extreme artificial lighting to create the 'bleaching' effect on pop starts faces. Music videos also use the switching from colour to black and white or to sepia to indicate a shift from chorus to verse.  CGI is also used to create futuristic backgrounds or brightly coloured backgrounds.

Sound: Sound consists of two main forms, diegetic sound which is already present in the video and secondly non-diegetic sound which can be edited in. sound is absolutely essential in any music video as this is the main reason why people watch and listen to them.

Editing: various terms: jump cutting, montage editing. Creating the visually de-centred experience of jumping from location to person to instrument without any normal narrative continuity. Instead it is often the beat or the rhythm of the track which provides the organising principle for editing movement.

COSTUME: Costume is used when the artists are trying to portray themselves in a certain way based on themselves or their music.   For example Lady Gaga wears very extravagant clothing  and style in her music videos to go with her image, as like LMFAO.  Costume can also be use to display and can relate to what the song is about, but also for entrainment. as like Breach did with their song JACK, were they used

Colouring: As like lighting, colour is very similar to in a way,  because the colour of the lighting is very important in certain situation as well as costume, male up, location and the camera angles which will positioned to pick up certain colours of focus of particular colours.  Colour and be a representation of moods and feelings, for example black and white can be displayed as being a symbol of a relation being off and on like the black .
